Brodstone Holds Annual Awards Banquet

Brodstone Memorial Hospital held their Annual Employee Banquet last week.  This event was held at Superior Estates Winery.  Attendees were reminded what happened in 1976 and 1986 as those were the years that Sandra Borden and Dr. Robert Leibel were hired at Brodstone.  Those honored for their years of service were 40 years Sandra Borden; 35 years June Frasier; 30 years Dr. Robert Leibel; 20 years Jason Hass, Pamela Sholtz, Trisha Rust, Michell Harris, Janell Beard, Stephanie Thayer; 15 years Bert Beguin, David Wroughton, John Keelan, Kendra Lipker, Terissa Spice, Kelly Howe; 10 years Jenny Landreth, Donna McCord, Ashley Bouray, Amber Kussman, Phil Peters; 5 years Lori Harris, Jason Hamilton, Michelle Lindberg, Krista Harms, Alisha Fangmeyer, Brandon Blecha, Krista Tatro, Valerie Wilmot-Schoenhals.

Also announced was the Employee of the Year, Doug Wehrman.  Other worthy candidates were Jennifer Eitzmann, Joanne Sibley and Margene Eitzmann.

Dr. Doug Wehrman is the Director of Therapy Services and was Employee of the 1st Quarter in 2016.  He has been a physical therapist at Brodstone for almost 7 years.  Doug is on the Patient Safety Team at Brodstone, helps with the local sports teams and has been very active in the Career Pathways program.  He received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Hastings College and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.  He was also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Doug and his wife Kristi have 3 children, Allison, Benjamin & Elizabeth.  Doug grew up in Nelson and lives outside Edgar.  Doug was honored because he is a patient advocate, as he will do anything and everything possible to help his patients while maintaining a warm loving demeanor.  Doug is professional while being loyal, patient, respectful, cheerful and positive.  He is a role model to all who work at Brodstone.

Employee of the 2nd Quarter was Jennifer Eitzmann.  Even though Jennifer has only worked at Brodstone for 2 years, she quickly became a great asset to the team.  She has shown excellent professionalism and expertise in her craft as a Radiology Technologist and has become involved in many hospital activities.  Jennifer grew up in Belleville KS and now lives in Concordia KS with her husband, Mike and three children Olivia, Carter & Hudson.  Jennifer received her Bachelors of Science in Medical Diagnostic Imaging from Fort Hays State University and completed her Vascular Ultrasound Technology from Washburn University.  She is also registered in x-ray, mammography and vascular ultrasound.

Joanne Sibley was the Employee of the 3rd Quarter.  Joanne has worked in Brodstone’s laboratory almost 13 years.  She has made a lot of patient-friends and co-worker friends because she is caring, generous, intense and fun-loving.  Patients ask for her by name.  Joanne’s work ethic and attitude are great.  Joanne is a phlebotomist so has drawn many a patient’s blood, so kindness is definitely an asset.  Joanne lives in Red Cloud.  She has a daughter, Gara, who is currently a student at Gonzaga University pursuing her degree as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.  She also has a son, Jared who is recently married to Erica.  They live in Beloit KS.  Joanne is a Certified Phlebotomy Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Margene Eitzmann, Laboratory Director was Employee of the 4th Quarter.  Margene was chosen for this honor because she is a “rock star” in her department.  The Superior Lab Department has served as a test site for a new order management system.  Margene has spent many long hours above and beyond her normal full time duties as a lab manager.  She knows how important it is to have pilot sites dedicated to the project to ensure adequate testing of new systems before they are put in place.  Margene’s work has been invaluable to Brodstone and her peers.  Margene has worked at Brodstone for 38 years.  She grew up in Hardy and lives in Superior with her husband Norris.  They have three children, Allison, Nicholas and Erin.  Margene received her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from the University of Nebraska.
