Spring BMH Auxiliary Meeting
March 30, 2009

Auxiliary Honors Mary Fuller

The Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Spring Meeting was held March 30 at the Presbyterian Church in Superior with 75 members and guests in attendance. Entertainment for the evening was an announcement by Hospital Administrator, John Keelan, concerning the new construction of a Cat Scan/MRI suite and clinic. Mr. Keelan described the construction project and the membership was shown a computer image of the project that is scheduled to be completed in 2010.

Special guests of the auxiliary were Drs. Blecha, Leibel and Theis. March 30 is Doctor’s Day and the theme for the meeting was “Together We Save Lives”. The physicians were thanked for their dedication. Dr. Blecha said he was thankful for the support of the auxiliary and appreciates the items that are purchased each year by the auxiliary.

The Secretary’s Report, Auxiliary Treasurer’s Report and the Nifty Thrifty Treasurer’s Report was reviewed and approved. President Marlene McGowan reported the vending machine at the hospital had to be replaced. With the new machine, the vendor replenishes the machine and takes the money with a check issued quarterly. With this change, the check will go directly to the hospital. This should be a time savings for the treasurer.

Volunteers at the Nifty Thrifty were thanked for their time and also those that donate the items to be sold. Denise Thayer, manager, reported unsold items are given to other organizations such as the Hastings Homeless Shelter and recently a box of shoes was given to a church for a project to give shoes to those in need.

Mary Fuller, Membership Chairperson reported a current membership of 227. Maxine Rempe, Babysitting chair, had nothing to report. Virginia Lewis, Sewing Committee, reported 60 items mended and 65 new items were completed since November. The sewing ladies meet at the hospital the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m. and new volunteers are welcome to join them. Lorraine Rempe took 20 bibs to the hospital recently and has 12 more ready to go. Dixie Whitney from the Gift Shop Committee reported they have a new items. They also need more volunteers to work in the Gift Shop. Please contact Liz Kaldahl to schedule a time to work. Chris Hiatt reports that she has 9 callers on her calling committee and could use a couple more volunteers.

The Ice Cream Social Committee for 2009 will be Kathe Ely, Karen Fox, Virginia Lewis and Sandy Bothwell. The Fall Fund Raiser chair person will be Sarah Kirchhoff. With funds from the Nifty Thrifty and the auxiliary, a donation totaling $18,000 will be given to the hospital in 2009. The approved project list will include a patient lift for the nursing department, a steamer for the dietary, pulse oximeter for Cardiac Rehab and a stereo for the new MRI room for Diagnostic Imaging.

The new officers for 2009-10 will be Louise Henderson, President, Sherry Kneip, Vice-president, Victoria Barnard, Treasurer and Karen Tinkham, Secretary.

Karen Tinkham, Public Relations Director at Brodstone, reminded the membership that the 2009 Health Fair will be held April 25. The Foundation Golf Tournament is June 27, 2009 and there will be a Texas Hold ‘em Tournament at the same time at the Country Club. Also, the hospital will be selling their new Cookbook, entitled “Reflections…..80 years in the making” and should be available May 15th.

Mary Fuller was named the honored volunteer for all of her work as membership chairman. Mike Geis was introduced to the membership.
