Brodstone Memorial Hospital is a cornerstone of the Superior, Nebraska community.

We are grateful to all our volunteers who donate their time, energy, talent and support. Brodstone Memorial Hospital has an active Auxiliary, over 200 members strong, whose primary mission is to assist us in providing high-quality, low-cost healthcare. The dedication of our volunteers makes it possible to purchase hospital equipment and to make improvements to our building on an annual basis. Sources of income for the Auxiliary include the Nifty Thrifty—an outlet for recycled clothing and other small items, the Gift Shop, located on the 1st floor of the hospital, and various annual fundraising events. Volunteer opportunities are also available at the hospital. Greeters are stationed at the north entrance to help patients and visitors get to their destinations within our facility. If you are interested in joining the Hospital Auxiliary or donating your time as a greeter, or help with the Nifty Thrifty or Gift Shop, please contact the Public Relations Director at Brodstone. Your volunteerism is greatly appreciated.

Spring BMH Auxiliary Meeting

April 14, 2015

Hospital Honors Twila Berry

Twila Berry & John KeelanThe Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary held their spring meeting April 14, 2015.  Twila Berry was named the Honored Volunteer for her volunteer efforts at the Nifty Thrifty and other auxiliary fund raising events.  New officers were elected, Julie Delka, president, Anna Hawley, vice president, Karen Tinkham secretary and Emily Kirchhoff, treasurer.  Diane Littrell was introduced to the membership.  She is the Diagnostic Imaging Director since the retirement of Cindy Hedstrom in February. Guest speaker was Angela Henderson from Black & Burlap.  Angela described her new business to the membership.

Committee reports were given.  The fall fund raiser "From the Kitchen" held in November had a profit of $4,715.  The total amount from the auxiliary and Nifty Thrifty donated to the hospital this year will be $32,000.  Items purchased for the hospital with these funds include a patient bed with a scale for Nursing, a treadmill and Nustep for Cardiac Rehab and a heated tray cart for dietary.

The Sewing Committee mended 15 items and made 69 new items in the last 6 months.  Auxiliary members also make bibs to give to babies born at Brodstone.  Three members volunteered to chair the Ice Cream Social to be held this summer.  Plans are also being made for a soup supper to be held at the hospital this fall.  Committee members would like donations of wide mouth jars for this event.  They can be turned in to Karen Tinkham at the hospital.

Out-going president Kathy Essink, thanked the membership for all of their volunteer hours.  She estimated that over 7,000 hours are donated each year which includes the thrift store, gift shop, two annual fund raisers, sewing and greeting hours.   That does not include time attending meetings and the time spent preparing donated food or other items.

The auxiliary membership currently stands at 228 members.  The auxiliary has two fund raisers each year and staffs the hospital Gift Shop and the Nifty Thrifty.  Some auxiliary members also greet at the hospital. They have two meeting a year.  If you would like to become a member, please contact Karen Tinkham at Brodstone Memorial Hospital.
