Walk With a Doc

Walk With a Doc

Brodstone Memorial Hospital is encouraging everyone to take a step toward better health and Walk with a Doc, a health program that brings doctors and patients together to walk every first and third Tuesday of each month.  Our first Walk with the Doc will be May 15.  We will meet at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in the south lobby at 9.m.  We will start with a short discussion about how to take your own heart rate while resting and during exercise, what the typical rages are and we will practice what we learn during the walk.  Our walk will take about 60 minutes, however if you wish to have a shorter walk, you may leave at any time.  The scheduled walks for June will be 5 and 19, and in July they will be 3 and 17.  These walks will continue throughout the year, with an alternate route for inclement weather.

Walk with the Doc is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country.

The Walk is open to the community.  Participation is free and pre-registration is not required.  Walkers will enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating walk with Spencer Trapp, Physical Therapist at Brodstone.  Other health professionals will join from time to time to provide support to participants and answer questions during the Walk.

Brodstone Memorial is honored to partner with Walk with the Doc and South Heartland District Health Department to bring this program to our area.  “There is no question about the many benefits of regular exercise, including it can reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, help you control your weight, and strengthen your bones and muscles”, said Spencer Trapp. “Exercising can also help reduce stress and help you feel better overall.”
